Selfless Heroes of School Shootings

"We take great comfort in knowing that Dylan was not alone when he died, but was wrapped in the arms of his amazing aide, Anne Marie Murphy," the family said. "Dylan loved Mrs. Murphy so much and pointed at her picture on our refrigerator every day. Though our hearts break for Dylan, they are also filled with love for these and other beautiful women who all selflessly died trying to save our children."

Dawn Hochsprung ended her life in the same way she lived, helping children. When the gunman forced his way into the school, Hochsprung died while lunging at him in an attempt to take him down.

Victoria Soto was awarded the presidential medal of freedom posthumously, she revealed her hiding location to try and help her students escape. placing her body in front of the children before she was shot. Some of the children survived because she sacrificed her life. 

Liviu Lebrescu, professor at Virginia Tech, is most widely known for his actions at the Virginia Tech shooting, when he held the doors to his lecture hall closed, allowing all but one of his students to escape through the windows. Shot and killed during the attack, Lebrescu was posthumously awarded the Order of the Star of Romania, his home country's highest civilian honor.
